More Information

Everything you need to know before, during, and after your hunt.

Meat Processing

After a successful harvest, getting your meat processed quickly and properly is a priority. Field dressing is handled on-site by your guide. From there, you are responsible for arranging transport and processing — but we are happy to recommend processors we trust. Wild pigs, blacktail deer, and turkey all process differently, and we can walk you through what to expect for each species before your hunt.

Taxidermy

If you are looking to have your trophy mounted, we recommend working with a taxidermist sooner rather than later. Proper field care of the cape or hide starts immediately after the harvest, and your guide will help ensure it is handled correctly in the field. We can refer you to taxidermists in the region who have experience with California blacktail deer, wild turkey, and wild pigs. Let us know before your hunt if a mount is a priority so we can plan accordingly.

General Hunt Info

What to Bring

  • Valid California hunting license and appropriate tags or permits for your species
  • Layered clothing appropriate for early morning cold and afternoon heat — Northern California weather changes fast
  • Sturdy, broken-in boots suitable for uneven terrain and long walks
  • Your rifle or bow, ammunition or arrows, and any optics you plan to use
  • Water — at least 2–3 liters per person per day
  • Personal medications, sunscreen, and insect repellent
  • A cooler in your vehicle for meat storage after the harvest

What to Expect

Hunts typically begin before first light and may run through midday depending on conditions and species. Your guide will meet you at a designated location and lead you to the hunting area on private land. Terrain ranges from open grassland to steep oak-covered ridges depending on the property and species. Physical fitness matters — be prepared to walk and hike. Jonathon keeps groups small so every hunter gets focused attention and the best possible chance at a quality animal. Wounded Animal Policy**

Info for Non-Hunters

Bringing a spouse, partner, or family member who does not hunt? We want to make sure everyone has a good experience. Non-hunters are welcome to accompany hunters to the ranch and surrounding area. The property has open space and scenery that makes for a great day outdoors even without a rifle in hand. That said, active hunting areas require everyone present to follow basic safety rules — your guide will go over these at the start of the day.  Non-Hunter Fee: $200*

Copper Shell Notice

California law requires the use of non-lead (copper) ammunition when hunting in the state. This applies to all species — deer, turkey, and wild pigs. Lead ammunition is not legal for hunting in California and will not be permitted on our hunts. Copper bullets are widely available at most sporting goods stores and perform excellently on all the species we pursue. If you have questions about ammunition selection or need recommendations, ask your guide before your hunt date and we will be happy to help.
